Jury Member at Orange Cameroun "Let's Code for the Planet" Hackathon
Evaluating Tech Innovations for Environmental Sustainability at ODC University of Buea
For three days, 18–20 June 2026, Nfor Nde Nyambi served as an official Jury Member at the "Let's Code for the Planet" Hackathon, organized by Orange Cameroun at the Orange Digital Center (ODC), University of Buea.
The Format:
The hackathon brought together young developers, UI/UX designers, and problem-solvers, all tasked with proposing digital solutions to environmental challenges facing local communities. Over the three days, teams worked through smart waste management systems, energy resource optimization tools, and circular-economy applications, translating environmental concerns into working software prototypes under real time pressure.
What Stood Out:
Nfor described the level of innovation, creativity, and technical skill on display as genuinely impressive, noting the range of approaches teams took to similar problems and the polish many managed to reach within a compressed three-day window. As a jury member, he evaluated submissions on technical feasibility, market viability, scalability, and code architecture, going beyond surface-level demos to assess whether each solution could realistically be built out further.
Why This Kind of Event Matters:
Beyond the competition itself, Nfor pointed to hackathons like this as a meaningful platform for young African innovators to get direct, constructive feedback on their work from people with industry experience, feedback that's often harder to access outside of structured events like this one. He extended his appreciation to Orange Cameroun and the Orange Digital Center, University of Buea for creating that platform, and to every participant who showed up ready to build.
