Leading PHP & MySQL Backend Training at Orange Digital Center

Facilitated training session for software engineering interns at University of Buea ODC

On Tuesday, 4 August 2026, Nfor Nde Nyambi facilitated a hands-on backend web development training session at the Orange Digital Center (ODC), University of Buea, guiding a cohort of internship trainees through the fundamentals of PHP and MySQL.

Why a Project-Based Approach:

Rather than teaching backend concepts in the abstract, Nfor structured the entire session around a single, real application built from scratch during the workshop: a PHP Authentication & Product Management System. The goal was for trainees to see how the pieces of a backend, authentication, session handling, and data management, actually fit together in a working codebase, not just in slides.

What Trainees Built:

The session walked through designing a secure user authentication flow, including signup, login, and session-based route guards, followed by a dashboard displaying live inventory statistics. From there, trainees implemented full CRUD (create, read, update, delete) operations for a product catalog, complete with image uploads and client-side previews. Nfor also covered how to structure a maintainable PHP codebase by cleanly separating configuration, shared includes, and request handlers, a pattern that scales well beyond a single training exercise.

Live Deployment:

By the end of the session, the application wasn't just running locally; it was deployed to a live production server so trainees could see and use the finished product outside the classroom. The deployed app and its source code are both linked below.

Why It Matters:

For Nfor, sessions like this reinforce a belief that technical leadership isn't only about writing code, it's about breaking down complex systems clearly enough that others can build real, working software with confidence. The Orange Digital Center at the University of Buea, operated by Orange Cameroun, continues to be a recurring venue for this kind of practical, project-first mentorship.
